Podcast Academy Episode 4: "The Humans of Moria" Founder

Kiki a.k.a. “Captain Alpha” was already familiar with life as a refugee when he arrived to Moria Camp in October of 2019. Long before his journey took him to Greece he had fled from his native Burundi to seek shelter in Rwanda.

One year ago Kiki started @the_humans_of_moria Instagram account to help asylum seekers on the Greek isle of Lesvos share their stories, their conditions, and their ordeals with the outside world. But now, for his first podcast episode, it’s Captain Alpha’s turn to tell his own story.

Many thanks to ReFocus Media Labs for their support in making this academy possible!

After listening to this episode be sure to check out the other episodes produced by and for displaced peoples through the Latitude Adjustment Podcast Academy. And help more displaced peoples to become podcasters by supporting our GoFundMe campaign.

Live Panel with our Podcast Academy Students and ReFocus Media Labs

For this return to our live video broadcasts we pass the mic over to our recent Latitude Adjustment Podcast Academy graduates. Our first graduating class of asylum seekers on Lesvos worked very hard over the course of five weeks to learn about the principles and mechanics of podcasting and to bring you their first episodes. Our panel focussed on their personal stories as well as the challenges we overcame together to bring you their podcasts episodes.

All of our students are also students of ReFocus Media Labs, and ReFocus co-founders Douglas and Sonia join us and their students for a remote reunion.

You can support our GoFundMe here.

Podcast Academy Episode 3: Fear and Hope

In the third episode of the Latitude Adjustment Podcast Academy four young Afghan women share their greatest hopes and fears since arriving to Lesvos and to the borders of the European Union.

Be sure to check out the other two episodes from the students, and the short preface episode as well.

Latitude Adjustment Podcast Academy: How We Did It!

Before you hear the episodes from the very first graduating class of the Latitude Adjustment Podcast Academy, we’d like to take you behind the scenes to share some of the challenges and the lessons learned during the production of our shows here on the Greek Island of Lesvos. The story behind the stories will provide you with a lot of helpful context for the episodes created by our students over the course of our 5-week program.

And if you’d like an update on all that has happened on Lesvos over the past year, and more information about why we decided to start the academy here, then be sure to start with this episode.

Welcome to the Latitude Adjustment Podcast Academy and to the first class of what we hope will be many more! And a special thanks to ReFocus Media Labs for connecting us to their students and for their support and guidance throughout the academy.
